“Rising out of present time and place, above
The wet, green grass.
This is not landscape, full of the somnambulations
And the sea. This is my father or, maybe,
It is as he was,
A likeness, one of the race of fathers: earth
And sea and air."
Excerpt from The Collected Poems of Wallace Stevens
This work explores connections with a land which is my 'home' by birth, but a land from which I have been in flight for most of my adult life. A land in which my ancestors were born and lived, but with which I feel no meaningful, emotional connection.
