A trip to the castles in Bavaria is always worth it, even in winter. The Alpsee has a circumference of 4.70 km and belongs to the municipality of Schwangau and is located in the immediate vicinity of the royal castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. Two kilometers northwest of the lake is the town of Füssen. From there you can arrive in a short ride by bus.

In 1832, Crown Prince Maximilian purchased Hohenschwangau Castle and had it rebuilt into the castle it is today. After his death, his son, King Ludwig II, took over the property and had it redecorated according to his preferences. The castle is located directly opposite Neuschwanstein Castle, built for Ludwig II, in the Hohenschwangau district of the municipality of Schwangau near Füssen in Bavaria.

Neuschwanstein Castle stands above Hohenschwangau near Füssen The building was erected from 1869 for the Bavarian King Ludwig II as an idealized image of a knight's castle from the Middle Ages.
