People enjoy the view at Audace, a quay on the old harbour of the northern Italian city of Trieste. The quay is located between the harbour basins of Bacino San Giusto and Bacino San Giorgio in the immediate vicinity of Trieste's main square, Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia, and the former merchants' quarter of Borgo Teresiano. It was built between 1754 and 1756 by the Venetian Matteo Pirona, further digging the main collector of the salt pans, when these were buried to allow the urban development of the city outside its walls. It was built so that boats could come directly to the city centre to unload their goods.

Art in public space.
A man sits on a stone staircase in front of the artwork Rivertime by Hermann-Josef Kuhna. In 1997, the artist and professor of art Hermann-Josef Kuhna and his students created the mural "Rivertime" consisting of hundreds of thousands of colourful iridescent dots on the side walls of the staircase at Burgplatz and the adjacent Rhine wall. 20 years later, however, the artwork was partly dirty and smeared. Kuhna suggested replacing the acrylic paints with tile ceramics to avoid vandalism in the future. In 2017, the artwork was restored with this new idea.
