The bus, one of several organized by Team Humanity, is full of residents fleeing Russia’s ongoing bombardment of residential neighborhoods. The vehicle is bound for the Moldovan capital Chisinau where some will travel on towards cities in surrounding countries, some will remain in Moldova and some spend the ride making calls to family and friends, unsure of where to go.
All board the bus with only what they can carry, unsure of if or when they’ll return home and whether much of their home will still exist. Russia’s indiscriminate and targeted attacks continue at this moment as Russia pursues an ambitious plan to cut off all access to the Black Sea.
Moldovans and aid organizations are working tirelessly to provide for the ongoing flood of people fleeing Ukraine, but the need is overwhelming and still expected to grow.
While the largest number of refugees have fled to Poland the highest per capita have arrived at the border of Moldova. The small, poor but generous country of less than 3 million people has so far received over 230,000 Ukrainian refugees.

More than 2.3 million people have fled Ukraine in the last two weeks, a number expected to grow as Russia continues its indiscriminate and targeted attacks on cities and civilians.

"We left my husband in Mikolaiv. He told me that we must leave, that it was becoming too dangerous, but he will stay and fight. He said that he loves us but that he must defend Ukraine".
