The four-day Hostile Environments and First Aid Training, offered with RPS Partnership, is designed for U.S.-based, women-identifying journalists with at least one year of full-time professional journalism experience. A special emphasis will be placed on how to safely cover elections. Student journalists may also apply to this course with a letter of support from an editor. The course will be specifically tailored to the safety concerns of political reporters in the U.S.
The IWMF will select 16 journalists to participate, prioritizing reporters who have not received prior security training, especially journalists from underrepresented backgrounds, and journalists who report on politics. In addition, we will prioritize applications from North Carolina and surrounding states, although political reporters across the U.S. are invited to apply. The IWMF will cover all costs and arrange travel and lodging for all participants. To learn more about our HEFAT courses, please visit our website here.
We will accept applications through February 15, 2020 via Submittable: https://iwmf.submittable.com/submit/154715/iwmf-hefat-course-april-8-11-2020-raleigh-north-carolina
