Mexican documentary photographer, journalist and educator focused on gender and human rights issues. Her projects are based on exploring social boundaries and rehistorizing the body in a situated way. Through her images she reflects on coloniality, gender culture, violence, and trauma.
Her work has been published in magazines, print and digital media such as; The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Women´s Media Center, The HuffPost, El País, Cuartoscuro, La Jornada, El Universal, Milenio, and Lado B, among others. She has collaborated with UN offices and with various civil society organizations. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in various regions of Mexico and in cities such as New York, Rome, Guayaquil, Paris, Tokyo, Valparaiso and London. Greta is part of the Women Photograph Advisory Committee, also part of SheSource a panel of experts of the Women´s Media Center, a full member of Diversify Photo and has a Master Degree in Women Studies.
In late 2020, she was awarded the National Geographic COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists. Similarly, her work was recognized with third place in the "Working Women" photography contest organized by the Secretariat of Popular Cultures. In October she won the 23rd Latin American Documentary Photography Contest "The Works and the Days" in the Working Woman category. In the summer of 2020 she was nominated for the 6x6 Global Talent Program of the World Press Photo and selected as a finalist in the Women Photographt + Getty Images Grant. At the beginning of this year she was selected as part of “This is Gender 50/50 Global Health” Photo Contest. In 2019 Greta was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Marilyn Stafford Photo Reportage Award. That same year she was part of the XXXII generation of the Eddie Adams Workshop, and her work was selected in the 2019 National Photo Contest "Human Rights". In May, she was selected as a Fellow of the International Women's Media Fund to participate in the “Adelante” Program in Latin America. And in February, she was selected as a finalist in the "XI Edition of the IILA-Photography Prize" on Gender Equality.
In the summer of 2018, she was awarded a scholarship by the Bob and Diane Fund to attend the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop in Calcutta, India. That same year, she was part of the selection for the contest "The Strength of Women in the Face of Disappearances in Mexico". And in 2017 of the International Photography Contest "Diversity and Peace".
