Summary

Raleigh, North Carolina—May 7th, 2022— Firefighters and family members from across the state of North Carolina gather to pay their respects to the active duty firefighters that passed away in 2021. It is a yearly event, hosted in Nash Square, organized by the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation. During the past couple years, these selfless men and women have been dying in increasing numbers—not from fire but from COVID-19. One of those firefighters who passed away due to COVID-19 was Division Chief Mark Covil of Pender EMS and Fire.
