On the right his wife Linda.William served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on the 327th Bomber Squadron, 92nd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was killed in action when his B-17 ran out of fuel and crash landed two miles south of Bury St. Edmunds, England, while returning to Podington Station 109 after mission to bomb Darmstadt, Germany during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.John tells: “I was only seven at the time, he 19. I knew I had an older brother, but I hardly knew him. He didn’t make it back. War is a horrible thing.” The Burrows hope to impress that on young people, they should know about it and remember.
