The urban villages are the rural villages that were urbanised as the city expanded around them. Sixty percent of the Indian Built scape is built beyond the premises of formal architecture, away from the parallel lines, right angle, and Smooth surfaces.

Gurgaon is one of the fastest growing metro cities in the world with about million citizens and there growth has doubled in just last decade, ..slick office complexes, housings, and shopping malls per square mile, then anywhere else in India. Unfortunately, the rapid growth happened much faster than the city could handle and now, infrastructure is no where near the standards required. The city is a glimpse into the future of India - Skyscrapers dominating the skyline.

It is really amusing for me to see how the urban fabric that changes because of such rapid urbanisation of the city and its surroundings. With rapid urbanisation what has happened is a lot of small area has developed and if we look at the history even through architecture and spaces the places has evolved, even the slums today are evolving. And the basic reason behind that will be government policies and economic status of people who inhabit the space.

As people migrate from different states of India, they have tried and made these urban villages their home. I have been living and working in different urban villages of NCR from past few years which fascinates me with new adventures everyday and being a photographer I have always felt the need to capture it.
