About
Carl Glenn Payne grew up in Jacksonville, North Carolina. His dad was a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Lejuene. That is where he spent most of  his childhood adventures in the Carolina wilderness that was his backyard. He moved to Southern Indiana for his high school years and started making friends while exploring the mid-west.

In high school, he found an interest in journalism and photography. His senior year he joined the high school photography club and school newspaper. At the age of 18 he graduated high school and a week later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Photographer.

Having  little experience as a photographer prior to his enlistment, he had a crash course that helped him find a long-term passion for documentation and visual storytelling.

During his service, he traveled to several countries, and attended the Military Photography Program at the Defense Information School in Fort Meade, Maryland. During his first deployment documenting an infantry battalion, he earned the Combat Action Ribbon for performing under enemy fire and the Purple Heart Medal after being wounded by an improvised explosive device during combat operations in Afghanistan.

The second half of his career as a military photographer would be documenting humanitarian operations in Thailand and the Philippines while stationed in Okinawa, Japan.  Serving as a Marine, he learned how to be a photographer in real world high stress situations that he continues to build on as a freelance photojournalist.

After the military he focused on a degree in Social Documentary at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Currently Glenn is working as a freelance photojournalist and is available for assignments.
