I have been a documentary photographer for more than 25 years, since obtaining my undergraduate degree from Yale University. I also studied briefly at the San Francisco Art Institute. I have photographed all over the world: in Europe, across the United States, in Mexico, and in Bangladesh and India. In 2011 I began a long-term project about religious festivals in Bangladesh and Eastern India under the auspices of a Fulbright fellowship.
I have exhibited, lectured, and been published and collected internationally; in the summer of 2011, my work formed part of the Italy Pavilion at the 2011 Venice Biennale. I am currently publishing my first book, called Shipbreak, about the last voyage, demolition, and recycling of a US merchant ship with Edition Patrick Frey in Zurich.
