License to Kill  / Roni Ben Ari

Photographed in the fields of Kibbutz Ruhama, in southern Israel.

I accompanied hunters on an expedition following complaints by local farmers whose sheep herds became sick and died after being infected by a bacterium transferred through wild boar feces.

According to the law, it is prohibited to hunt animals unless there is justification for the killing, and otherwise, animals and the civilian population will be unjustly harmed.

I was struck by the very notion that killing a diseased or sick wild boar is permissible by law.

Does killing with the sanction of law make it right? And where is justice?
