  Daniel Auf der Mauer has studied photography at Hochschule fuer Gestaltung und Kunst in Zurich, Switzerland and graduated with honorable mention. In his work as a freelance photographer, Daniel photographs documentary stories and portraits for international publications such as The New York Times, Der Spiegel Magazine, Die Zeit, NZZ Folio Magazine and many more.

Daniel is known for his ability to approach emotional topics with sensitivity and empathy and tell multi-layered and deeply touching visual stories.

In 2012 he published his photo book MZAYNA – Of Old and New in collaboration with Anina Gmuer – a long-term documentary about how the traditional culture of a bedouin tribe in the Sinai desert in Egypt is being changed through the influence of modern western society. MZAYNA is being published by Benteli Publishers and was shortlisted for the prestigious German Photo Book Award 2013.

In 2015 Daniel has published his first short documentary film: NOBODY'S WOMEN – Breaking the Silence: Sexual Abuse in India.
