The things people go through in their lives aren't as out of the ordinary as one might think. In this series of images, I am creating a space for conversation around mental illness, especially the type which is associated with self-destructive behaviors. The existence of anxiety and depression is so prominent in our world "“ and within our heads "“ yet it seems to be such a taboo subject that people try to hide. While inviting viewers in, I'm constructing my own private place that is both quiet and uncomfortable to examine. I intended for the content to be familiar in order to create a relationship between myself and the viewer, especially those who can relate. As humans, we share experiences that make us more alike than we realize.
