Visura is delighted to welcome 21-year-old photographer Gabriella Báez to the invite-only Visura Mentorship Program in New York, where she will work directly with Visura founder Adriana Teresa Letorney.
During the mentorship, Gabriella will receive advice and support on how to effectively further her skills, work, online presence, and career as well as build relationships and partnerships with media professionals and organizations. She will also continue to develop her long-term personal project titled "Ojalá nos encontremos en el mar" about losing a loved one to mental health issues in the wake of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
About Gabriella Báez
Based in San Juan, Puerto Rico—Gabriella Báez is a documentary photographer and visual artist. Her work focuses on documenting intimate and personal stories from her father's death post -Hurricane María due to mental illness to the daily life of her closest friends.
At twenty-one years old—Gabriella's work has been published in numerous publications, including Internews, El Nuevo Día, Primera Hora, Espacialidades, and Revista Brinca Verja.
In May 2019—Gabriella completed a two-week intensive program at the New York Times Student Journalism Institute. She also attended this year's New York Times Portfolio Review.
In 2017, she was awarded Student Photographer of the Year by the Association of Puerto Rican Photojournalists. Since then, she has participated in various fellowships, research programs, workshops, and exhibitions.
