SANTA MONICA, Calif. - The Von Lintel Gallery in Santa Monica, California is thrilled to present Lightwaves until August 15, 2022. This is the gallery’s third solo exhibition with American artist, Joe Rudko, who is a Seattle, Washington native. Curated by Tarrah von Lintel, the exhibition presents a selection of photographs from a collection of vintage snapshots of friends, family, and a variety of internet vendors. “From afar each photograph looks like a pixelated digital image; however, when you get closer you realize that, in fact, they are anything but that,” says Von Lintel about Rudko's images.
Von Lintel describes Rudko's work as unique in this digital age due to the fact that he completely ignores digital photography and photoshop. “The various textures of the snapshots, which were printed in the pre-digital era,” she says, “make people nostalgic and emotional because it brings back fond memories of the past.” She adds that the use of pre-digital photographs perseveres history and gives people a new way to look at it and appreciate it.
Joe Rudko received his BFA in Photography and Drawing from the Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA in 2013. His work is in the permanent collection of The Getty Museum, Portland Art Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and most recently in the Morgan Library & Museum in New York. At the Von Lintel Gallery some of his past work includes Untitled Colors (2021) and Tiny Mirrors (2019). He is the recipient of the Future List Award, the Anne Tucker & Clint Willour Young Photographers Endowment, the Facebook AIR Program, and the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship Award.
