Jul 11, 2017

Visura is proud to announce the grantee recipient for The Cortona On The Move workshop with Donna Ferrato. The winner is Clary Estes.

The Scholarship will cover the fee to attend The Erotic Eye Workshop on July 16 & 17, 2017 led by Donna Ferrato for Cortona On The Move. Clary will work on developing her own unique erotic eye and learn how to delve into more intimate situations with her subjects.

The Erotic Eye Workshop was created by Donna Ferrato and Tomeu Coll in 2015. It is a guided tour through the world of eroticism, symbols, and fantasies. At its heart is the belief that we are born to love and be loved, and that, in the words of the late great Czech photographer Miroslav Tichý, "All of society is based on sexuality."

Ferrato has already led three Erotic Eye Workshops in Spain, Germany, and the U.S. and its examination of the complexities of sex, love, and violence are the cornerstones of her work.

NOTE FROM DONNA FERRATO:

The way Clary works is what I admire most. Her work does not merely document a story straight on; rather, it analyzes and re-analyzes the story over the course of months and years to show the dynamic and complex nature of the stories we live.

About: Donna Ferrato is an internationally acclaimed photojournalist known for her groundbreaking documentation of the hidden world of domestic violence. Her seminal book Living With the Enemy (Aperture, 1991) went into four printings and, alongside exhibitions and lectures across the globe, sparked a national discussion on sexual violence and women's rights. In 2011, Ferrato launched the "I Am Unbeatable" campaign to expose, document, and prevent domestic violence against women and children through real stories of real people.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Clary Estes is a documentary photographer from Central Kentucky who works internationally on stories about the human condition. Recently, Clary published a very important essay titled, The Brave New World of Photojournalism.
