Scout Film Festival Year In Review

Now that we are well in to 2018, we wanted to take a moment to look back at Scout 2017. Because of great Sponsors, Partners, Volunteers and Individual Donors, 2017 was a winner and 2018 is already off the charts!

SCOUT CONTINUES TO GROW!
In 2017, we just about doubled our submissions (987 from 67 countries), attracted new and exciting Industry Jurors. We augmented our festival program (June 9-11, 2017) with two well-attended insightful workshops on production and storytelling. We curated a phenomenal teen art show from youth artists around the world in partnership with Crybaby Zine Founder, 17-year-old Remi Riordan from New York City.

PAYING IT FORWARD
In partnership with Adolescent, we granted our first sponsored Awards - Best Director, Morgana McKenzie and Best Emerging Director, Maddie Kern. These awards came with a contract with Adolescent Content and a budget to make a non-fiction/social experiment 2-3 min video which premiered on their platform, www.adolescent.net.
For the second year in a row our super collaborator and sponsor GetFilming, an online film school & community, offered a free course to each filmmaker who submitted to Scout! Yes, they know we had 987 submissions in 2017 and, YES, they were psyched to school as many young filmmakers as we send their way in 2018! Helping make awesome films is what they live to do! With 21.1k Twitter and 168k Instagram followers"¦ They make a lot of awesome.

THANKS FOR THE RECOGNITION!
Scout was celebrated locally on Vermont PBS! The VTPBS program "Made Here" aired a Scout Film Festival Winners Showcase in October of 2017 including six winners from Festival 2017.

We were also recognized abroad for our excellent programming! TheNextFilmFestival in Denmark invited us to curate and recommend two films/filmmakers for their festival in August of 2017. We were fortunate enough to be able to sponsor both Caleb Wild (Scout 2017 Winner Best Actor, Editor and Overall Film - Cycle) and Carol Nguyen (Scout 2017 Winner Best Experimental Film - Facade) to attend in person. Both were nominated in various categories Juried by Oscar-Winner Martin Strange-Hansen, among others. Caleb brought home the trophy for Best International Script with endless appreciation to Scout for making it all happen!

Perhaps our most stunning success is the continued loyalty and true connections made for which this organization is particularly known. Our outstanding roster of loyal emerging talent is the crowning glory of a lot of hard work and a great year.

LET'S CELEBRATE!
In 2018, year three, we received 2,161 submissions from 105 countries!

We continue to evolve to rise to the calibre of work and support with which our base provides us. We are working on some exciting changes and additions to our existing program to expand exposure for our young talent. We will also focus much of our energy on bringing new partners and sponsors on board to provide more resources for the organization and our filmmakers.

We have reached a pivotal point in development where we have the opportunity to grow our audience and establish Scout as the movement through which personal and professional connections are made and emerging talent is discovered.

Wishing you a new year of peace, happiness and great stories!
Local Love, Global Love.
Your Scout Team
