Canarias es la comunidad autónoma Española que tiene la lista de espera más larga para diagnosticar y pagar a dependientes en relación con la media de España. El porcentaje de personas con derecho a la ayuda que aún no lo han recibido supera ya el 50%. Éste es el caso de Santiago.
Desde hace 6 años tiene a su cargo a su madre, postrada en una cama a consecuencia del Alzheimer, y a su hermana de 57 años que además de sufrir una deficiencia mental, está imposibilitada para mantenerse en pie debido a una atrofia muscular de sus piernas.
La rutina de Santiago comienza a primera hora de la mañana; prepara el desayuno, los medicamentos y el aseo diario de ambas mujeres después atiende las necesidades individuales de cada una: cambio de pañales y de postura, ejercicios de estiramientos, administración de oxígeno, limpieza y demás tareas domésticas. Cuando cae la noche tras haberles dado la cena y haberlas acostado. Santiago comienza a maquillarse: es transformista, le gusta y es el único trabajo que ha conseguido para poder mantener a su familia.
Está claro que todo sería más fácil si la ayuda por fín le llegase a Santiago pero nunca llegó a tiempo y Antonia, su madre falleció el 31 de octubre.
Este reportaje principalmente denuncia el retraso de la aplicación de la Ley de Dependencia en Canarias que es la comunidad autónoma con la lista de espera más larga de España.

Santiago routine begins early in the morning, cooking breakfast, and giving medications, daily cleaning of the two women after serving the individual needs of each: change diapers and posture, stretching exercises, oxygen, cleaning and other other
housework. When night falls after giving dinner and putting them to bed. Santiago
begins to makeup, he is a transformist, he likes it and is the only job he has managed to
support his family.
It is clear that everything would be much easier if aid finally arrived but the aid never did and Santiago’s mother, Antonia, died October 31.
This report primarily aims to highlight the delay of the implementation of The Law of Dependency in the Canary Islands which is an autonomous community of Spain.
