How could the massive fish die-off in Oder River happen?
Assignment for STERN Magazine in August 2022

The mystery of the dead fish: reconstructing a catastrophe and attempting to find out who is behind it. For STERN I traveled to Brandenburg to photograph Dr. Jörn Geßner, biologist at the Leibniz-Institut für Gewässerökologie und Binnenfischerei.

Together with STERN reporter Tina Kaiser, we visited a sturgeon breeding farm and accompanied Dr. Geßner on a boat ride along the toxic water, looking for answers to what has caused the massive fish die-off.

Dr. Geßner has been working with sturgeons for 26 years and is an expert in the field.

Together with STERN reporter Tina Kaiser, we visited a sturgeon breeding farm and accompanied Dr. Geßner on a boat ride along the toxic water, looking for answers to what has caused the massive fish die-off.

A reportage with words from Tina Kaiser and photographs by Nadja Wohlleben in August 2022.
