Interview in »taz am Wochenende«

For the past seven months, I went to the Tiergarten, a central park in Berlin, with my colleague Johanna-Maria Fritz, where many refugees take drugs and engage in prostitution. At first, we went there to develop a relationship with the men, so we could photograph them. But we quickly noticed that there were not enough social workers assisting them.
I believe in the importance of using my role as a professional photographer to influence positive change.
We started by organizing a coalition of social service providers that can meet regularly and discuss ways to coordinate efforts to assist these people. We used social media to mobilize Berlin residents to assist them, helping them in the next months to apply for jobs, process other paperwork, and other activities they otherwise can not do.
An interview about the situation in the park and our work was published on Saturday in »taz.am wochenende«
